The Current Interview - Quint Marento

Have They Gone Too Far?

The latest play from The D Team, "Supper With Hitler" was performed recently and the "Upper Class" review is here!

Also on the page, a review of "Dark God of the Desert".

Supper With Hitler

One well-recevied play and they think they own the fucking stage.  Well they don't!  Their debut in February was torture enough, but at least it was no-brainer and they weren't getting all clever.  Alas, The D Team have gone and gotten all intellectual on us by writing and directing a factual historical piece about Adolf Hitler.

And it's a mess.

The staging is frightfully dull and it is a woefully minimalist affair, which seems to confuse history with horrible.  With plays like this doing the rounds, David Starkey has bugger all to worry about.

The plot is incomprehensible and the script feeble.  The new factual, "clever" D Team is totally unwelcome.  Here's hoping with their third play they will be at least good.

Dark God of the Desert

This was billed as a contemporary horror piece written for the stage.  This was clearly a misprint as I found myself watching a comedy.  Well I do not hesitate in saying that I laughed more at my wife's funeral!  As a wholly humourless individual, my sense of humour would be to eat a baby!

The writing is passable, if a little cliched and justifying the existence of Yanks, and the staging is abysmal.  A terribly depressing affair, which seems to confuse horror with horrible.  With plays like this going around, Stephen King has nothing to worry about.
